Lenovo India launched Moto Z Play modular smartphone in India on October 17 at 11:59pm, along with the Moto Mods. The phone is a midranger with some high-end specs.

Moto G4 Plus has been launched a little while before. The smartphone is a pure midranger when it comes to pricing but it has impressed everyone with its amazing specs.

In this comparison article, we’ll compare all the important features and points of both Moto Z Play and Moto G4 Plus with each other.

Key Features

The best thing about Moto Z Play is that it’s a modular device. That means it’s not limited to the hardware that company has offered to it while manufacturing, it can be upgraded by adding different Moto Mods. On the downside, the Moto Mods are way too costly and most of the consumers won’t be able to purchase them.

The Moto G4 Plus is a normal smartphone that doesn’t support any modular functionalities.

The Moto Z play comes with 32GB of internal storage plus a microSD card slot that can be used to upgrade the storage by up to 256GB, while Moto G4 Plus buyers will have to make do with 16/32/64GB of onboard storage. The Moto Z Play comes with a USB Type-C reversible connector while Moto G4 Plus comes with a USB 2.0 connector.

The Moto Z Play is equipped with 3GB of RAM, while the Moto G4 Plus is equipped with 2/3/4GB of RAM depending on which storage variant you choose.

Both phones are running Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow by default, with a stock like Moto UI. Also, both the devices have a front facing fingerprint scanner.

Display

Both the devices sport a 5.5-inch Full HD (1920×1080) display on board. The difference is that Moto Z Play comes with a Super AMOLED display which will shine even in a broad daylight. Moto G4 Plus, on the other hand, comes with a IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen.

Moto Z Play has a higher pixel density, although it will be barely discriminable to the human eye.

Camera

Both the devices come with 16MP rear cameras with laser autofocus, phase detection, and dual-LED flash. Moto is using f/2.0 sensors in both the devices, which is a standard camera sensor size at this time in the smartphones industry.

Again, both the devices have 5MP front cameras (f/2.2).

Talking about the video recording performance, Moto Z Play can record 160p@30fps, 1080p@30fps, and 720p@120fps. While Moto G4 Plus can record only 1080p@30fps.

Performance

The Moto Z Play is packed with a Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor which is a midrange processor with standard performance. Graphics performance is powered by an Adreno 506 GPU.

Moto G4 Plus comes with a Snapdragon 617 octa-core processor which is also a midranger. Graphics and gaming are supported by an Adreno 405 GPU.

Battery

The Moto Z Play comes with a slightly powerful battery than Moto G4 Plus. Moto Z Play is equipped with a 3510 mAh Non-removable Li-Ion battery. While Moto G4 Plus is powered by a 3000 mAh Non-removable Li-Ion battery.

Both the devices have a great battery size which can last for more than a day at least.

Pricing

Talking about the pricing, the Moto Z Play comes with a price tag of Rs 24,999 and can be purchased from Flipkart (buy now).

The Moto G4 Plus comes only in two variants in India, the 16GB variant with 2GB RAM and 32GB variant with 3GB RAM. Both are available at price tags of Rs 13,499 and Rs 14,999 and can be ordered online via Amazon (buy 16GB or 32GB).

Verdict

If we talk about the overall performance and features then Moto Z Play beats Moto G4 Plus with a slight margin. But when it comes to pricing, Moto Z Play costs almost twice as Moto G4 Plus. So, what makes Moto Z Play this costly? Well, it has a better display and modular design.

In a nutshell, if your pocket allows you to have a device that can offer you a way to extend features by adding mods then go with Moto Z Play else Moto G4 Plus is a true winner because of its budget-friendly price tag. Rest is your choice 🙂
